Sun Hours 1.5 is here
Sun Hours 1.5 is rolling out now on iOS and Android — the biggest update since launch. Four things to know:
- The forecast model just got smarter, calibrated against real solar panel data
- Solar Wars — a new, totally optional way to see how your panels stack up
- Solar Insights — a weekly headline from Sol, so you know what's coming at a glance
- Sun Hours now speaks German and Spanish
Here's what's changed.
A forecast model that learns from real panels
Every Sun Hours forecast starts with weather data — but not all weather data agrees. Met Norway and NASA POWER often give slightly different numbers for the same location on the same day, and only one of them tends to be closer to what actually comes off a real panel.
With 1.5, that gap just got smaller. The forecast engine has been re-tuned by comparing both weather sources against real kWh generation readings, and adjusting toward whichever source tracks closer to reality for that location and time of year.
This isn't a one-off fix. Every release from here folds in more real-world data, so the forecast quietly gets more accurate over time — built on actual sunshine hitting actual panels, not just satellite estimates.
Solar Wars: see how your panels stack up (totally optional)
New in 1.5: a "Join Solar Wars" card at the bottom of your dashboard. Tap it, pick your county, and your daily generation quietly joins a live UK leaderboard — your county vs. every other county, on average and total kWh.
It's entirely optional and entirely about generation, not location — Sun Hours never shares where you live, only how much sun your panels caught. If you'd rather not, just ignore the card. Nothing changes.
Curious what it looks like first? The live heatmap is public — no sign-in needed: sunhours.app/solarwars
Solar Insights: Sol's headline for the week
Sol's been quietly reading the 7-day forecast and boiling it down into one line — your Solar Insight. Think of it as the front page of your week: the standout day to plan around, or the dip worth knowing about before you open the hourly chart.
It updates as the forecast does, so check back midweek if conditions shift.
