Which UK county has the best solar?
We've always known the sun doesn't shine the same everywhere in the UK. Cornwall gets more peak hours than County Durham. Kent catches better angles than Cumbria. But nobody had tracked it properly — county by county, day by day — using real household solar data.
Until now.

How Solar Wars works
Sun Hours users already log their daily kWh generation — that number is what calibrates the app's forecast. Solar Wars syncs that same figure to a county leaderboard, contributing your kilowatt-hours to your county's daily average.
The county with the highest average daily generation across its players leads the map. The leaderboard updates live. The public heatmap shows which counties are lit up and which are in the shade — visible to anyone at sunhours.app/solarwars without signing in.
Pick your tribe
When you join Solar Wars, you claim one of the 73 UK ceremonial counties — your tribe. Every kWh you generate goes toward its average and its position on the leaderboard.
You can switch county once every 30 days. Choose wisely.
What's on the leaderboard
- Map — a live UK heatmap. Counties with higher average generation glow brighter.
- Ranks — the full county standings sorted by average kWh/day per player. Filter by month, year, or all time.
- World — how the UK sits against countries with Sun Hours users worldwide.
- Me — your personal generation log, your county's current position, and your trophy progress.
Trophies — earned over months, not days
Solar Wars has a trophy system, but it's not built for the first week. Streak trophies run from 7 consecutive days all the way to a full year. Volume trophies start at 50 kWh and scale to 10,000. Live trophies — for your county or country leading the leaderboard — transfer whenever the top spot changes.
The goal is a long-term record of genuine solar generation, not a sprint to unlock badges.
