What a kit must meet to qualify
Under SI 2026/848, a “plug-in microgenerator” must satisfy all of the following:
- ✓Generates electricity only from sunlight (solar)
- ✓Maximum AC output of 800VA (3.5A) and 2,000W of panels
- ✓Connects via a factory-fitted, non-rewireable BS 1363 plug with a fuse of 5A or less
- ✓Assessed and identified as compliant on the ENA Type Test Register — registration alone is not enough
- ✓Carries the compliance declaration and QR code on the product label
- ✓Batteryless (no importing electricity to store for later use)
- ✓Complies with the Plug-in Solar Device Interim Product Specification v2 (16 July 2026)

FAQ
Which plug-in solar kits are certified in the UK?
None, as of 29 August 2026. Three microinverters — from Anker, GoodWe, and InstaGroup — have been registered on the ENA Type Test Register under the plug-in solar device category, but all three are currently assessed non-compliant. SI 2026/848 is now in force, so the legal route is open; it's waiting on a product. This page is updated weekly.
Is a kit that's on sale automatically legal to plug in?
No. Being on sale in the UK is not the same as being certified for standard-socket connection, and being registered on the ENA database isn't automatically the same as being assessed compliant either — as the Anker and GoodWe entries show. Only a kit assessed compliant against the Interim Product Specification v2 is covered by SI 2026/848.
What happened on 27 August 2026?
The PSSR amendment (SI 2026/848) came into force as planned. From that date a certified kit can legally connect through a standard socket, one per household (not per circuit — that relaxation needs a separate G98 amendment with no date set), with the owner notifying their electricity distributor. No kit has cleared certification yet.
